All state chairmen of the Social Democratic Party in the South-South region of Nigeria alongside some key national officials converged in Calabar yesterday to lay out political strategies towards next year’s general election.
The meeting also witnessed the swearing in of all the party officials in Cross River State, as well as affirmation of the presidential ambition of Mr Donald Duke and that of Barrister Eyo Ekpo in Cross River State.
Addressing the mammoth crowd of supporters at the state party secretariat, the national leader of SDP, Chief Patrick Anethua who stood in for the National Organising Secretary, Mr Emeka Atuma, he said the meeting of the South-South chairmen and other strategic officers of the party was to look at our strategies towards the upcoming governorship elections in our states, and challenges at mobilising membership effectively.
“We are here to plot deliberate strategies to win next general elections in the South-South states and elsewhere. We are here also to see that we do the needful to back the aspirations of Mr Donald Duke and that of Eyo Ekpo”, he said.
Ekpo said, ” In Cross River, people have been under severe stress and poor governance so that it has become very necessary for SDP to come to the rescue and recover it for posterity. ”
National assistant secretary of the party for South-South, Elder Isaac Ogona who inaugurated the state executive committee charged the party to work as if there is no tomorrow to win next governorship election, assuring that desires supports would be extended.
National women leader, Hajia Maggie Marian Batubo charged women in the state to be more active in politics, and should contest for available offices, advising that they should work to support themselves.
