No fewer than five thousand APC members in Wariji Local Government Area of Bauchi State have defected from All Progress Congress APC to Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP within less than one month now, LeadingReporters can authoritatively report.
The last defection of thousands of APC members took place few days before the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari who was most recently on a working visit to Bauchi.
A source who spoke to our correspondent in Bauchi State confirmed the defection and hinted that more would still defect to protest what he called the Governor’s pride, insensitivity, and incompetence which has pitched him against the state Chapter of APC and most electorates in Bauchi State.
The source who identified himself as an APC member revealed that if President Buhari relies on Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar to mobilize voters for him come, 2019, he would fail woefully in Bauchi State.
“Bauchi State historically has been a stronghold of President Buhari. He has been sweeping votes from the state, but things seem to be turning around for worse this time around under current Governor Abubakar’s’s watch.
“Governor Abubakar has no glaring support of the people; his highhandedness has cost the party fortune and would still cost more. It behooves on President Buhari to study the situation and know if there’s need to resort to other options if he must get the peoples’ votes this time around”
In another development, youths numbering over 500 were allegedly arrested and detained two days before the arrival of President Buhari who was on a State visit to Bauchi because they planned to stone the Governor in protest of his inability to provide employment and other electoral promises he made before the general election.
“Many youths, numbering more than five hundred were arrested and detained because they wanted to protest against the Governor and his style of leadership. Intelligence revealed it to the governor few days before the President’s visit and they were rounded up in a location where they have gathered pebbles with which they wanted to attack the governor’s envoy”.
