The chairman of the Cross River State APC ward and local government congresses committee, Major General Azegaku Tsotan Umar (Rtd) has said that there is nobody that can influence, threaten or intimidate him to do their biddings in the conduct of the APC congresses in the state.
He said the national working committee of the APC gave him specific mandate to achieve as chairman of the congresses committee in the state.
Addressing journalists at the APC secretariat in Calabar, the general said he was in the state to advance the interest of the nation, party and unity of the state APC.
When asked about whether he was afraid for his life or that of his committee members, he said “I have no fear of any kind about my safety or that of members of my committee in this state in the discharge of our assigned official duties. It is God that protects.
” And I want to add that I cannot be intimidated or threatened by any politicians to do what I am not assigned to do”, he said.
A key member of the party in the state who wishes not to be named described how Umar had told off a minister who is from the state when the minister tried to dissuade him.
“That largely accounted for the very peaceful and fair congress we had last week across the state”, the party bigwig told journalists.
Many leaders of the party had expressed happiness at the end of the ward congress and expressed confidence in the General Umar-led committee.
