All is not well with the Ward Congress of the All Progressives Congress holding across the country, as the exercise has been marred with violence and irregularities.
The Agenda Online reports that In Imo State, the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha may have been decimated, even as his loyalists were rough handled and thoroughly beaten.
An eye witness who spoke to our Correspondent on the condition of anonymity explained:
“Okorocha has been decimated. The Managing Director of Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission -ISOPADEC, Andrew Nwoketubo, also known as Vokor was nearly thrown down from the state Police Commissioner’s office. He was mercilessly beaten, tear-gassed and briefly thrown into dungeon. Emeka Igwe, Hon. Oshimiri of Ideato South, Hon. Chidi Ibe were also beaten. The Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Uju Kingsley and Jeff cleverly escaped. The point is that Okorocha cannot survive the onslaught. My brother, my eyes saw something today. The place is charged. The truth is that Okorocha has been defeated in the party.”
In another development, some members of the All Progressives Congress, believed to be
loyal to the Minister for Transport, Rotimi Amaechi allegedly hijacked materials meant for today’s exercise.
The Agenda Online reports that some aggrieved members of the party, said to be loyal
to Senator Magnus Abe, whose governorship ambition for next year appears threatened, as a result, were accused of vandalizing the party secretariat located on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, on Friday.
Amaechi and Abe, who served in his (Amaechi’s) government as the Secretary to State Government (SSG), are currently lurked in a battle of supremacy for the control of the party machinery, believed to be critical in the 2019 general election.
Reacting to the development, Rivers State Governor, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has expressed surprise at what he describes as the level of impunity that was being unleashed on the political climate in the state.
On the number of armed security operatives attached to the Minister and their role in the situation, Wike stressed:
“If they could be negatively used during a party congress, Nigerians should expect electoral mischief, masterminded by security agencies in 2019. In an ordinary party congress, over a platoon of soldiers and more than 200 F-SARS personnel have been handed over to one man. The operatives are to protect just one man, while other people are left without protection.”
Also reacting to the development, Senator Abe called for the intervention of the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to ensure that justice is done.
“Up till now, nobody has heard anything from the officials that will conduct the congresses. None of the stakeholders has been called to any meeting. Those who have paid to get forms don’t know where to go or who to issue them form, but we are here and some forms have been issued at Intels in Port Harcourt,” he said.
“We would like to appeal to the national secretariat of the party to do something about the situation. Forms have not been given to those who bought forms. They protested when they heard that forms were being distributed at Intels.”
