The Comptroller general of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede and the Metropolitan Bishop of Calabar emeritus, Archbishop Joseph Edra Ukpo has commended the passport office of the Cross River State command.
Both have rated the office very high for service delivery and stopping extortions of unsuspecting Nigerians who visit to either renew or obtain new International passports.
Archbishop Ukpo was happy that international passports can now be issued within 24 hours. In his remark at the office when he visited, he said, ” I have found the Calabar passport office exceedingly pleasant. The workers are disciplined and duty conscious. They are polite and there is no distraction between them there is team work. It is ideal place.”
In a communication to the state passport control officer, Mr. Ime Nta, the comptroller general expressed happiness that the previously reported extortion at the Calabar office has now abated.
He has also commended Nta for helping to facilitate the process of issuing the passports to customers without hassles and delays.
He was rated the best on service delivery of 24 hours passport by the Comptroller General and is reported to maintain the position yet.
At the passports office, increasing number of applicants for International passports has been very excited over new attitude to work at the office.
Checks at the passports office, showed that many applicants are besieging the office from states in the Southeast and Akwa Ibom States to process their applications because there are no more hidden or extraneous charges outside the official costs for the different categories of the International passport.
Speaking to journalists, Mr Ime Nta said, “In this office, depending on availability of the passport booklets and network signals, passports are usually processed and delivered within 30 minutes. Since I resumed here in 2017, I am glad to say that there has been remarkable change and success going by the reports of satisfaction from applicants”.
