Breaking: Court Grants Former SGF Babachir Lawal Bail

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, bail.
The court had on Tuesday ordered that Lawal, who was dragged before the court along with five others for alleged fraud, be remanded in the custody of the anti-graft agency.
The Economi and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had on Tuesday arraigned Lawal before a Federal High Court in Abuja over the use of a company said to be owned by him to remove what he had described as “invasive grass” at the cost of over N272 million in the North East.
Lawal had pleaded not guilty to the 10 count charge brought against him.
However, on Wednesday, the court granted the accused bail in the sum of N50 million each and one surety each who must possess titles to lands within the jurisdiction of the court, show evidence of payment of tax for the past three years and be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
Lawal and two others were also told to deposit their international passports with the court pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions.
The case was adjourned till March 18, 2019.
