Teeming number of spies, including secret service agents have invaded many parts of Cross River State and have allegedly abducted no fewer than eight Cameroonian refugees who were holding meeting I’m Calabar.
Sources claimed that the eight were thought to be planning against President Paul Biya who they said has unleashed the might of Cameroon against separatist movements in the southern Cameroon. otherwise called Ambazonian Republic.
Those spoken to claimed that the secret agents were paid to monitor activities of ‘Ambazobians’ against the government of sit-tight President Biya.
An elderly medical expert in Calabar who wanted to remain anonymous for security reasons told journalists in Calabar that they were being picked up one after the other secretly.
He said the thousands of Cameroonians in Nigeria, particularly in Cross River State are presently living in extreme fear of being arrested or killed any time because of the massive infiltration of the city by sponsored spies from the government of Cameroon.
“Few days ago, 8 of us who were holding their harmless welfare meeting somewhere in Calabar were swooped upon, beaten and shipped to Cameroon by Biya’s spies who are everywhere in Calabar. According to the spies, the people were said to be planning against Biya. We live in perpetually fear as the violent crises persist in the English speaking Cameroon”, he said.
But in a swift reaction, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo denied knowledge of the invasion or arrest of the 8 persons. She said, “That can not be true. It has not happened. We are not aware of such incident.”
He said more and more of his compatriots were fleeing everyday from Cameroon, and that there are over 50,000 Cameroonian refugees presently in parts of Adamawa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. He agreed that this sheer number was already impacting on the local economy, and called on international community, including Nigeria to show more concern by extending to them much needed supports.
He appealed to the federal government of Nigeria to give more supports to the Cross River State government to continue to provide the welfare supports to them, which they are very thankful for.
The medical expert lamented that Biya was using oil proceeds from southern Cameroon to fight the owners of the natural resource, and regretted that neither the United Nations (UN) nor African Union (AU) want to listen to their pleas. He alleged that the colonial masters of Cameroon, France, were those fueling the war and the blinding international community to their detriment.
