The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has stressed the need for all Nigerians to own Permanent Voter’s Cards to confirm their power to vote in or vote out any governments.
Speaking on behalf of other Bishops, Most Rev Joseph Ekuwem who is the metropolitan of Calabar Ecclesiastical Province Bishop urged members of the church to intensify efforts at registering themselves and also collecting the PVC.
He addressed the press at the end of a 3-day conference of the Bishops which appraised their works during the year.
Ekuwen maintained that the era where people sit at home to grumble that wrong individuals had been fixed in positions of authority without their consent was over.
Remarking on decamping, he asked if such added in any way to any political growth in the country
“We hear of decamping on daily basis, does it in any way add value to the socio-political economy of our nation? Does it make political Life in Nigeria better than before? These are issues that became worrisome
to the conference.
“We cannot sit home fold our hands, failed to do the needful so that we can participate in the political process to vote our conscience, only to look for who to blame when the process to elect our leaders commenced”.
