The Cross River State Government has pledged to eliminate tetanus amongst children in all its schools in the foreseeable future.
Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu disclosed in Calabar when she paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Education, Godwin Ettah.
She said they will soon embark on Maternal Neonatal Tetanus Elimination exercise among school children, disclosing that the exercise will take place in 12 Local Government Areas across the three senatorial districts beginning from 27th through 31st March, 2019.
She maintained that the exercise will go a long way to reduce the envisaged scourge in the state.
Edu said that the agency’s visit to the ministry was to seek support and collaboration to intimate school principals and students about the 2nd Round MNTE Exercise.
She said, “By the grace of God, the Governor has delivered almost all the promises which he made to the people and so is determined to do more.
“We need you to grant us access to persons within the age limit that are still in school as well as collaborate with the Obolopon of Ugep, since Yakurr is among the 12 LGAs where the activities will take place.
“This administration will continue to support maternal neonatal tetanus elimination and elimination of other diseases that have increased neonatal mortality.
“We strive to make tremendous impacts on women and children; we implore the people to take full advantage of this intervention package,” Edu said.
