The Imo State Housing Corporation has stated that its attention has been drawn to the misleading and malicious publication by one Onwuasoanya FCC Jones in the social media Titled “Imo Governor Abolishes Senior Citizens/Entitlements, Converts Complex To Housing Corporation’s Office”.
This was made known in a press release signed by Arc. Chidi Okoli, General Manager/Chief Executive.
The housing corporation boss maintained the publication was not only misleading and malicious but a misrepresentation of fact aimed at tarnishing the good image of the Government of Emeka Ihedioha.
“The Board, Management and Staff of Imo State Housing Corporation wish to let the general public know that the writers of the said publication and their sponsors were among those that ill advised the immediate past administration and followed in deliberately running down the hitherto buoyant Corporation that used to be the pride of the State”, it added.
“A visit to the MCC head office of the Corporation will show the horrible and pitiable state of decay and disrepair the immediate past administration brought the facilities to. The complex was left to deteriorate and decay with the walls tearing apart, rickety roofs being blown off, the entire premises ravaged by erosion caused by Rochas and his questionable urban renewal, property files soaked and damaged by rain, very filthy environment with rats and rodents finding comfort in most of the offices, dilapidated office furniture and above all, low workers morale
“Now that the Government of His Excellency, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha have seen the plight of the State Housing Corporation and in his magnanimity decided to relocate them to a more habitable and functional office to enable the Corporation rebuild the Head Office Complex within a given time, the Social Media Tigers who have no work but to run down good ideas and administration have come again to portray the good administration of His Excellency in bad light.
“Onwuasoanya FCC Jones who claimed to have knowledge of the Imo Senior Citizens Centre building displayed total ignorance of the fact that the building is a “White Elephant” project as is known with the immediate past administration with so many uncompleted works that will require millions of Naira to complete before one could take effective occupation. The so called edifice was not only poorly built but was about 60% uncompleted considering the level of shoddy jobs done and works yet to be completed.
“Onwuasoanya goofed by misinforming the public that the building is a state-of-the-art edifice equipped with some of the best facilities for the comfort of senior citizens in the State. He exhibited another high level of ignorance by presenting the building which has no single furniture in it as being fully equipped.
“The Board, Management and Staff of Imo State Housing Corporation hereby wish to inform the public that this is yet another attempt to misinform the public and distract the Government of His Excellency, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha, CON from executing their well conceived and people oriented programs for the citizens of Imo State.
“No wonder then that the previous administration intentionally mismanaged and ran down the Imo State Housing Corporation, a Corporation that was established by Edict 14 in 1976 by the First Military Governor of Imo State, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu to among other things, acquire lands, design and build houses for the public and manage same. The Housing Corporation before the administration of Rochas Okorocha was buoyant and lived up to its responsibilities to the civil servants and entire Imolites. Unfortunately, under the administration of Rochas Okorocha, the Corporation was grossly mismanaged and neglected.
“The then Government and management ran the Corporation as private enterprise, taking people’s lands by fierce without due process and enriched their pockets through land speculation without any income to the Government, while workers in the Corporation are being owed over 5 months salaries, medical, leave allowances and retirement benefits amounting to over N50m. Presently, the Corporation has over 70 litigations against it in various courts in the State arising from unwholesome practices perpetuated by the last administration.
“It is now very obvious that the guilty are afraid. The Corporation under the leadership of able and seasoned professionals are now making concerted efforts towards rebranding and re – launching the Corporation in line with best practices in order to meet the yearnings and aspirations of Imolites both at home and abroad in the area of quality and affordable Housing. Our critics should infact hide their faces in shame as the wig does not make a monk.
“How can an administration that owed civil servants their salaries and allowances for years, pensioners not paid for years, and above all with no decent shelter over their heads come to the twilight of their administration to now pretend to have the welfare of its senior citizens at heart. Senior citizens that were never paid salaries and allowances and not paid their pensions. Enough of this deceit!
“The Management of the Imo State Housing Corporation therefore wishes to reassure the entire citizens of Imo State of the determination of the administration of His Excellency, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, CON, to restore all that was taken away fraudulently by a few individuals.
“We will soon commence with the process of recovering all lands and houses fraudulently allocated to all these greedy individuals and their cronies”.
He reassured that the government of Emeka Ihedioha, is determined to working assiduously towards the provision of basic amenities such as good roads, power supply, water supply, quality and affordable Housing, regular payment of workers salaries, allowances, pensions and gratuities.
