The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ogun Chapter, has urged Christians and political leaders to imbibe the enduring lessons of sacrifice, forgiveness, selflessness and perseverance, which the Easter season teaches.
Pastor Tolulope Taiwo, the spokeperson of CAN in the state, made the call during an interview in Abeokuta on Sunday.
Taiwo noted that Easter is an important event in the Christian calender which teaches lessons on the Crucifixion and resurrection of Christ
He said that Christ resurrection today has represented an assurance that we can have forgiveness from our sins, urging the faithful to use it as an opportunity to reconcile with Christ.
He also admonished Christians not allow the lessons of Easter season be lost, saying that their was no better time than now for Christians in Nigeria to rededicate themselves to the service of God.
“The death of Jesus is seen as a pointer to us that no sinner will inherit the kingdom of God, we should all live a rightous and holy life.
“it is the lesson of the celebration that we Christians suppose to imbibe not just the fun, the Bible says if Jesus did not rise our pains is going to be in vain,” he said.
“Our political leaders should not be doing things for only themselves, they should know they are in position because of the citizens.
“They must be able to make sacrifices that would be glaring for the entire nation to see, we are not saying they should kill themselves, but they should shun corruption, selfishness, self centeredness and never deprived Nigerians of their rights,” the cleric said.
Besides, he enjoined all Christians to work towards making the society a better place in line with the teaching’s of Christ.
