One of the notable and favoured aspirants hoping to succeed Chief John Odigie-Oyegun as new national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Clement David Ebri has said he is well qualified and possesses the characteristics and sagacity to lead the party to greater successes.
He has also looked at his home state, Cross River, and become dazed at the manner the governor, Prof Ben Ayade is running the state, saying he has completely ruined the fortunes of the struggling state
The former governor was fielding questions from journalists on a local radio, Hit FM, over his party chairmanship ambition and why he thought he was the best person to put right what are believed to have been wronged in the party.
Ebri said that he is more qualified and has the wherewithal to nurture and turn around the winning streaks of the national ruling party.
On the upcoming election of the APC national chairmanship, Ebri said it was wrong for people to canvass that President Muhammadu Buhari has already anointed former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomohle as his preferred man. He said Buhari, a man of integrity with good democratic degree, could not have done. “The president has told the party to go on and do the right thing. That doesn’t mean he has his candidate already”, he said.
He said the party is now in a shape that requires his kind of person that has not been enmeshed in any crisis of any sort but can amicably bring any aggrieved members on board for onward formidability of the party.
He said he has already mobilised much interests in neighbouring Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa and other places to support his aspiration.
The former governor also looked at the just held APC ward congresses held nationwide and said that there were some mishaps in some states.
He particularly gave low scores to the APC in his home state which has been disunited for some years now and blamed national officials who were sent to the party to mediate, and to conduct the ward election as having not done well.
On the governance in his state by the PDP, Ebri said Ayade has completely bastardised it.
He disagreed that the governor has lavishly compromised many key members of the party in the state, which accounts for the ongoing disaffection and bad blood in the APC in the state.
