Former governor of Cross River State and former national chairman of Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA), Dr Clement David Ebri has formally declared his aspiration to run for the office of national chairman of the ruling party in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the declaration at the Transcorp Hilton hotel in Calabar and pledged to use all his mediatory and co conciliatory prowess to unify and boost the 30 existing organs of the party.
Ebri said “In deciding to run for this exalted office after deep and wide consultation, I came away with the conviction that the fate of our great country is inextricably tied to the fate of our party.
” I believe that a fundamental task of the APC is to win elections. I am a firm believer in the party that of belongs to the people. I am an experienced mediator and conciliator who can being conflict management skills to the table. I would work tirelessly to position the party in order to keep the youth invested in our politics. I will in conjunction with party officials and members strengthen the 30 existing organs to function optimally. I will unify our members into an effective and winning electoral coalitions.
“As national chairman of APC, I will design rapid response mechanisms to petitions and complaints. I will encourage activities at local party levels such as cooperatives, empowerment programmes, group lending schemes and awareness programmes. All these and others will help along with a verifiable culture of internal democracy, transparency and accountability to encourage commitment to the party by all members
” I pursue a policy of constructive outreach to all sections of the country and all sectors of the economy and business world as well as major stakeholders and traditional leaders all over the country”, Ebri said.
Chairman of the function who is a foremost labour leader, Comrade Adamu Song, current general secretary of NUPENG, described Ebri as the best match to President Muhammadu Buhari because, according to him, he is integrity personified. He implored the All Progressives Congress not to elect someone with doubtful character as its new national chairman.
He said since President Muhammadu Bihari has acclaimed integrity, he warned that he should not be matched with someone whose integrity records are questionable.
“Since President Bihari has unquestionable integrity which virtue won him the presidential election I’m 2015, APC shCa make the mistake of mismatching him with somebody without same degree of integrity as the party national chairman. APC needs one like Ebri who has been tested to pair Buhari.
” APC does not need a clown and doubled faced hypocrite as national chairman if actually they want to with the 2019 presidential election. Ebri is a bridge builder that will unite the party and champion internal democracy”, Song said.
There were array of party stalwarts from different parts of the country as well as different political and youth groups who voiced their supports towards Ebri’s aspiration.
