The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has given approval to CWG Plc to serve as the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) for Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The Group Head, Brand & Marketing Communications, Mrs. Anthonia Ehanmo disclosed this to Journalists in Lagos, saying CWG won the approval after a competitive process involving over 120 MAPs licensee out of which CWG was certified and approved among the 30 MAPs for engagement with the Discos in Nigeria.

She said this is coming weeks after CWG was recently qualified as a meter service provider (MSP). A milestone, she stated has put the biggest system integration company in Nigeria on a global map of the few certified metering solutions experts in Nigeria.

“This milestone adds credence to our metering business and as such position us well in exploring the huge opportunity within the metering value chain in Nigeria,” a visibly excited Daniel Shoban-Das, V.P. Corporate Development, at CWG mentioned for emphasis.

Asked on further opportunities available for CWG in the energy value chain, Shoban-Das expressed belief that the breakthrough avails CWG the opportunity to be part of the major drivers of NERC’s vision of eliminating estimated billing and cover the metering gaps of over 5illion within the electricity supply value chain in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the rural electrification agency recently acknowledged CWG’s strategic role in the metering industry.

This came as a formal invitation extended to CWG to be part of the Mini grid initiative of the Federal government financed by the World Bank.

A preliminary expository discussion of the project scope, set to light up 250 communities off the National Grip was scheduled for April 1-3rd and was duly attended by Daniel Shoban-Das and Emmanuel Ilori, Business Development Manager, both of CWG.

The Expository discussions sought a platform for better understanding of the basic expectations of the partnering entities on the initiative to ensure improved power efficiency across Africa.
