Akpan Etukudo Asare, Calabar
Current Nigeria’s ambassador to Republic of Uganda and former legislator at the National Assembly, Chief Nya Asuquo has said he would love to become the next governor of Cross River State in 2019.
He declared his interest to join the governorship race at the state capital, Calabar amidst his APC supporters and community where he is the clan head. H said he was forced to make the declaration as a result of the mis-governance which has plunged the state to very poor rating.
He lamented that his state was once the cynosure of all eyes where tourists flocked into for a welcoming hospitality but has now been ‘messed’ up by what he described as clueless ness.
Buttressing his declaration to succeed Gov Ben Ayade in 2019, Ambassador Asuquo noted that has the knowledge, the experience and exposure to govern the state better.
He added that the current administration in the state had failed to provide the dividend of democracy in all the sectors including agriculture, housing, health, education, tourism among other.
On his advance age of 79, he emphasised that it has nothing to do with efficient governance and performance, stressing that performance is not a function of age but of ability, intellect and commitment.
The Ambassador said if a younger man comes with proven determination and workable programmes to lift the state he would give him support.
