Akpan Etukudoh Asare
The spiritual leader of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu has promoted Bishop Samuel Akpan a former governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Samuel Akpan to the high ranking office of an archbishop.
His promotion was seen as significant. It was part of the many events lined up to mark the diamond jubilee of the spiritual organisation reputed to have much influence and followership across many continents.
The ceremony which was held yesterday at the world headquarters of the spiritual organisation in Calabar to mark the upcoming to mark centenary celebration of the its founder, Leader Olumba Olumba Obu, which the adherents otherwise revere as the Ancient of Days and Promised Comforter.
Akpan, a longstanding faithful in the fold, has variously been a low ranking priest as well as an apostle and bishop before the latest elevation,which office requires him to attend to the vast population of the organisation in many countries.
Advising Akpan at the event, the spiritual leader and chief administrator of the fold, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu said Akpan should go forth and showcase the ideals of godliness and virtues he has learnt in the fold in order to impact the larger society.
He stressed that Akpan should allow the spirit of God to constantly lead him not only in his new ecclesiastical office but in his political dealings in Akwa Ibom State
He cautioned him against emulating what other politicians do which do not enhance the wellbeing and living standard of Nigerians.
He emphasise that irrespective of political parties or geographical origins, Nigerians should live in peace, love one another and forgive themselves.
There are now 16 archbishops and about 600 Bishops in the organisation reportedly parades over one million members, both black and white.
