A former Senator, Prince Bassey  Otu (APC) has decided to withdraw his earlier  petition  against Senator Gershom Bassey (PDP) who was declared winner of the Senatorial election held last March 2019 by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Cross River State.

The chairman of the National Assembly  Election Petitions Tribunal  in the state, Justice A. A. Babawale after listening to the reasons tendered by Out accordingly announced the Tribunal’s intention to discontinue the matter.

Prince Otu through his counsel of  Uche Ofidile, SAN,  on Monday 20th May said he decided to withdraw the petition in the interest of the Southern Senatorial district and wished Senator Gershom well as he provides effective representation to the district.

“My client has sworn to an affidavit to withdraw his petition before this honourable Tribunal in the interest of the southern senatorial district”. Ofidile told the Tribunal.

He said his client thought the matter was to be handled by party but since that was not the case, he decided to withdraw the matter to avoid spending more money after what he spent in the election.
