The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has assured students of the institution of security to forestall future robbery attack.
The assurance came, following the invasion of a hostel in the institution by hoodlums on Friday morning.
The robbers came knocking on doors of the hall around 1a.m.
Two students were injured.
Phones, laptops and ATM cards were carted away.
Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration of the institution, who spoke in Ibadan on Friday, said: “We have been security conscious, that was why we raised the perimeter fence around the hall.
“It is one of our halls that are close to the boundary of the university and the Polytechnic of Ibadan; therefore, many things had been tampered with.
“However, we will raise the perimeter fence further and then put wire marsh that would prevent anyone from coming in.
“We would also complete the perimeter fencing of the entire hall and increase the number of our security personnel manning the hall every night”.
While narrating the ordeal of the incident and the scenario, Adebowale said, “When we got the report around 1:30 a.m., I went there with the UI Chief Security Officer and some of the security staff.
“We met some of the students outside in panic and one of the security men tied and we had to loose him and we tried as much as possible to calm the tension.
“However, only two students were injured, one wounded on the head and was taken to the University Health Service, Jaja and had since been discharged.
“The other one jumped and I think she had a dislocation, not a fracture,” he said.
Adebowale said the Oyo State Commissioner of Police (CP), Shina Olukolu, and other officers have visited the scene of the incident, adding that investigation is underway.
“The CP came this morning to discuss with us on the event and we are lucky because one of the people that came left his phone behind.
“So, investigation is on and it has been handed to the CP, so there is peace all around UI,” he said.
At Obafemi Awolowo Hall, students were seen in small groups discussing the incident and expressing fear of another attack.
