Akpan Etukudoh Asare
Former governor of Kwara State and current president of Nigeria’s Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has revealed the reason the country is lagging behind global trends.
Speaking in Calabar when he stopped by to consult with Governor Ben Ayade over his presidential ambition,, Saraki said that when it comes  to leadership, Nigeria’s president should be a personage who is digital, mobile and has the capacity to plan for its people.

The Senate president said that as it stands, the present situation has not given room to that, bit that he has the requisite capacity to provide the digital leadership in Nigeria.

According to him, the country is not meeting up with modern trend in global leadership.

He maintained that there is a new world order in leadership across the country and the world is awaiting when the order will birth in Nigeria and his presidency will make Nigeria join the new world order in leadership.

Addressing Ayade, he said,, “I am here to seek the support of delegates of cross river state. The world over, there is a new world order out there, a new world order that requires a new type of leadership and a certain requirement of a president that leads a country.

“A new order that requires a president that is mobile, digital that has capacity that can plan for its people that has a destination that he is taking his people to. Across the world people are waiting for when this new world order will come to Nigeria and the new order has come at this time”.

He said Nigeria cannot afford to make another mistake in leadership in 2019 stressing that Nigeria will not develop by chance, or trial and error rather they need a leader with a vision and he has a vision for the country. He maintained that Nigeria should not elect leaders based on sentiments but those who have proven capacity.

“We cannot afford to make the mistake, it’s not just about voting out the APC, it’s about voting out the APC and restoring and repairing Nigeria. To do that, we need a capable president that knows what the issues are. Today we must grow this country and address the issues of hunger and deprivation out there.

“It’s not going to happen by chance or trial and error. Countries that have developed into Asian tigers did not just do it by chance, they have a vision and I have a vision for this country

“The confidence that drives investment in any country must radiate from the leadership. The time is over for sentiments. Sentiments have not taken us anywhere in leadership, it is time for capacity and ability. I believe my time as governor, chairman of governor’s forum and senate president has prepared me for leadership and I have shown I have the courage, determination and indomitable spirit   and this is what we need. We must be on the right side of history and begin to turn the country around”, he said.

Speaking Ayade commended the senate president for his visit to the state maintaining that Saraki has the humility and intellectual capacity to lead the country come 2019. He said having worked with the Senate President during the 7th senate, he is convinced he has what it takes to lead Nigeria to the next level and pledged his support to him
